40 Years of Wildlife Stories: DIY (Do It Yourself) Attempts

2024 marks our 40th year in business, and in these posts I’d like to reflect on some of the jobs that have made the past four decades truly special to me.

Over the years, I’ve witnessed some remarkably unconventional attempts by our customers to address their wildlife issues. I completely empathize with the anxiety, frustration, fear, and occasional anger that can drive someone to extremes when coexisting with wildlife in their home. While many of my customers showcase inventive problem-solving, one particular incident stands out.

Upon arriving at a residence to address a skunk residing beneath a front porch, I couldn’t help but be amused. It appeared that the homeowner had constructed a fortress of plastic forks and knives, presumably with the idea that the skunk would be compelled to enter a trap beneath the porch. Additionally, if the skunk happened to be outside and contemplated returning to its refuge under the porch, the makeshift barrier of plastic utensils was intended to deter it, fearing a potential stabbing. The mental image of this creative solution never fails to bring a smile to my face.
